What this hub covers

Work, career, and life direction assessments.

The two dimensions of burnout

Exhaustion — Physical, cognitive, emotional depletion that persists beyond a good weekend of rest. Disengagement — Mental checkout from work, cynicism, reduced meaning.

Different profiles need different recovery:

  • Exhaustion-driven: recovery hygiene (sleep, weekends off, physical recovery, cognitive-load reduction)
  • Disengagement-driven: values realignment (is this the right role, team, field)
  • Both high: comprehensive intervention including possible role change

When workplace stress crosses into clinical territory

Warning signs:

  • Symptoms persist on weekends and holidays
  • Sleep disturbance beyond acute work stress
  • Physical health impact (recurrent illness, cardiovascular signs, GI symptoms)
  • Family or relationship impact
  • Substance use as coping
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide (Question 9 on PHQ-9) — same-day clinical contact regardless

At this point, workplace intervention alone won't be enough. Clinical evaluation for depression or anxiety, combined with workplace strategy, is needed.

Career-direction difficulty

The pattern of "I don't know if I want to stay in this career" is rarely solved by information about other careers. It's usually solved by:

  • Values clarification — what actually matters to you in work?
  • Identity reflection — what part of your work is you, and what part is role?
  • Grief processing — grief of career mis-fit is real and needs acknowledgement
  • Structural experimentation — small trials before big changes
  • Financial reality — planning that makes change possible

Cadabams has clinicians who work on these dimensions alongside standard career coaching (which they often complement).

Financial anxiety

Under-screened but well-documented. Presents as:

  • Chronic worry about money
  • Avoidance of financial planning
  • Physical anxiety symptoms triggered by financial thinking
  • Impact on sleep and relationships

Chronic financial anxiety often co-occurs with generalised anxiety and responds to CBT interventions targeting worry patterns + concrete financial-behaviour work. Some clients also benefit from working with a financial planner alongside psychological work.

Structured programmes

The 90-day Workplace Wellbeing programme is calibrated for burnout, boundary difficulty, and workplace stress patterns. It has separate tracks for exhaustion-driven, disengagement-driven, and full-burnout profiles.

When to see a specialist

Frequently Asked Questions

Which work-related test should I start with?
Start with the [Burnout Risk Scan (am I burnt out test)](/assessments/am-i-burnt-out-test) — 2 minutes, maps your burnout risk band and dominant dimension. If you work in a helping profession (healthcare, mental health, first responders, teachers), take [ProQOL](/assessments/proqol) instead — captures Compassion Satisfaction + Burnout + Secondary Traumatic Stress. For deeper burnout mapping across any profession, take [OLBI](/assessments/olbi).
How is workplace stress different from clinical anxiety or depression?
Workplace stress is a state response to work-context factors — high demand, low control, unclear expectations, chronic pressure. Clinical anxiety or depression is a pattern that persists across contexts. They can co-occur: chronic workplace stress predicts and often triggers clinical anxiety or depression. Rule of thumb: if symptoms lift on holiday, it's more workplace stress; if they don't, it's crossed into clinical territory. If you're unsure, take [PHQ-9](/assessments/phq-9) and [GAD-7](/assessments/gad-7) alongside.
What about financial anxiety?
Financial anxiety is under-screened but well-documented. It presents as: chronic worry about money, avoidance of financial planning, physical anxiety symptoms triggered by financial thinking, and impact on sleep and relationships. Not the same as adjustment to a specific financial event. Chronic financial anxiety often co-occurs with generalised anxiety and responds to CBT interventions targeting worry patterns + concrete financial-behaviour work.
What about career-direction confusion?
Career-direction difficulty often reflects deeper identity or values patterns, not just information deficit. Someone who has spent a decade in a career and doesn't know if they want to stay is rarely helped by more information about other careers. They're helped by values clarification (ACT-based work), identity reflection, and often processing the underlying grief of career mis-fit. Cadabams has clinicians who work on the psychological dimensions of career transitions.
When should I see a specialist?
If burnout risk is High or Very High, if workplace stress is impairing sleep or health, if money anxiety is chronic and impacting daily function, if career-direction confusion has persisted for months, or if any of these co-occur with depression or anxiety. Mindtalk's clinicians work on workplace mental health and career-transition work across India.
